By far my most ambitious project to date, End Transmission is intended to be the culmination of everything I’ve learned, a linear, top-down bullet hell taking inspiration from the Touhou series and Hyper Light Drifter. It’s something I’ve been working outside of school for a couple of months now, a self-motivated effort fueled by my passion for frenetic boss fights and surreal locations. As of 3/6/2021, it has officially moved out of pre-production.
End Transmission stars a quiet man in a hazmat suit (known simply as “Haz”) with the ability to go into a trance and leave his body behind. Using this power to teleport and avoid attacks that would be nigh impossible to dodge otherwise, Haz ventures deep into a desolate land sealed off from the rest of the world. An otherworldly signal reverberates through this place, transforming the few survivors into unwilling agents of destruction who warp everything around them. With End Transmission, I want to capture a sense of dramatic mechanical escalation, as the player gets closer and closer to the center of the broadcast.
